Innovative Renovation at Zöld Liget Kindergarten with StepUp

The Zöld Liget Kindergarten in Budapest, originally built in 1952, has entered a new era thanks to the StepUP project and HeatVentors. The single-story building, which houses four classrooms, several support rooms, and a small basement, had significant energy inefficiencies typical of structures from its era. Heat loss through the roof and walls led to high heating costs, making it clear that renovation was necessary.


The StepUP project provided the ideal solution for the Zöld Liget Kindergarten’s renovation. This initiative introduced new technologies and solutions that were more affordable and, therefore, more appealing.

One of the most significant upgrades was the modernization of the heating and cooling system. The old gas boiler system was replaced with an energy-efficient heat pump system. At the same time, HeatVentors' Intelligent Thermal Battery was installed, providing flexibility in energy usage and optimizing the system's performance.





The Results: Significant Energy Reduction


The implementation of the Intelligent Thermal Battery brought tangible results. After the renovation, the building’s heating energy demand dropped by 32%, while overall energy consumption fell by 77%. This had a positive impact not only on the kindergarten's operational costs but also helped reduce its carbon footprint.


The comprehensive renovation of Zöld Liget Kindergarten serves as an excellent example of how modern technologies and thoughtful planning can improve the energy efficiency of older buildings. These pilot projects are especially important as they demonstrate that renovations are not only necessary but also provide long-term returns. Increasing energy efficiency is crucial not only for environmental protection but also for reducing the operational costs of institutions.
